I'm Laurie Leiker. Currently, I consider myself a children's author, but I've been a professional writer and editor for more years than I care to say. I'm the author of nine books on Amazon - four business books, four children's books, and a cookbook.
I'm also working as a freelancer for a large marketing agency here in Texas.
I'm a tech early adopter; I got my first computer in 1982, when computers first came out. Ten years later, in 1992, I was named best emergency computer repair company in Denver, Colorado. I learned how to fix computers by breaking mine in the same way the client's computer was broken and fixing it.
I spent 10 years as a radio and TV producer in Denver, Colorado - The Tom Martino, Troubleshooter radio show and I produced his TV reports. I was also on air every day for three hours with Tom as a consumer advocate. My last year with the show we were able to return over $2 million to listeners who felt they had been ripped off. Our undercover report on security at childcare centers changed the way those centers in Colorado protected their front doors. (I dressed as a bag lady and went into several childcare centers to see how far I could get before being stopped - I never was)
I was a food blogger for years, as the Lonely Gourmet. The website doesn't exist any more, but my cookbook, "Frying Solo," is still available on Amazon.
I love reading, needlework, yarn work, and my grandbabies. I live with two other widows in Austin, Texa, along with our three dogs and five cats. It's tough being a Yankee in Texas, but I'm adapting.
